What do I wear to class?

Appropriate attire for our pole classes can be capri length leggings or athletic shorts and a tank top or t-shirt. Appropriate attire for our aerial arts classes can be ankle length cotton leggings that do not have any metal parts on them like zippers or buttons, and a tank top or t-shirt that can be tucked into pants to stay in place when going upside down. For all other classes, wearing clothes that are comfortable for movement is best. Be prepared to remove any jewelry like rings, necklaces, or long earrings that may damage studio equipment or interfere with your personal safety at the studio. Class appropriate attire is required within the studio, and be fully clothed upon entering and exiting the studio grounds. Wearing undergarments only is not appropriate attire for pole classes. Street shoes must be removed before entering the classroom.

Do I need a background in movement or sports?

No, so go tell all of your friends! Many people who take classes at Empyrean Arts are learning these types of movement arts for the very first time, so if you are new to these arts, you will not stand alone, and you will be welcomed into an incredibly supportive environment. We encourage everyone of every background to attend the classes we offer at our studio. You will start in introductory level classes and work your way up to higher level classes as you gain strength, flexibility, and endurance. You will never be asked or required to perform skills beyond your skill level and/or movements that you feel that you are not ready to do yet. We got you, and you got this.

I am not very strong and I am not very flexible, can I still take a class?

Absolutely! Our class curriculum’s start with the absolute beginner in mind and progress upwards from there. Believe it or not, many of our instructors and students had little to no upper body strength and flexibility upon starting their first class. Our teachers are able to provide modifications and assistance for skills that you will learn in class. It is our responsibility as certified instructors to help you achieve your personal goals safely. If increased strength and/or flexibility are on your goals list, we are here to help make it happen in a fun and safe environment. We believe in you!

Do I have to wear high heels to pole dance classes?

No. You will never be required to wear high heels to pole classes, but you can if you want too. Your first many pole classes will be without shoes. As you progress and gain strength and confidence, you are welcome to bring your favorite heels to class and dance in them. The first few levels of our pole curriculum are built to help you incorporate heels later on into your workout as your strength and balance grows. Certain classes and workshops held at Empyrean Arts will encourage you to bring your most sassy of heels, but ultimately it is up to you and your comfort.

Where do I get dressed?

There is a private changing area within the studio. We have cubbies for storage of your personal belongings while you attend class. Our studio is within a larger building that we share with other awesome businesses like Catawba Brewery, Vortex Doughnuts, Buxton Hall BBQ, and Banks Ave. Bar. There is a communal hallway with public restrooms and water fountain that all building visitors have access too. These restrooms are available for your use.

If I am late, may I still attend class?

Generally speaking there is about a 5 minute or so grace period for late arrivals, but it ultimately depends on the instructor. We advise students to show up 10 minutes ahead of their scheduled activity at the studio to find parking and get ready for class. Students arriving 10 minutes or more late to class will not be allowed to attend, and will not be refunded. This policy is ultimately for your physical safety as a proper warm up is critical to safe and sustainable athletic training.

Is there anything else I should know about class?

Avoid putting on any lotions or body oils onto your skin before a pole fitness and/or aerial dance class. Lotions and oils make the equipment slippery and dangerous. Remove any jewelry like rings, necklaces, or long earrings that could cause damage to the equipment or interfere with safety. Ensure that clothing is free of any zippers, buttons, or any metal parts. Try not to be too nervous about your first class because you are going to rock it!

How do I cancel my recurring subscription payment through PayPal?

To cancel your recurring subscription payment through PayPal:

Go to Profile and Settings in your PayPal account.
Select My money on the left side of the page.
In the ‘My pre-approved payments’ section, click Update.
Select the seller whose agreement you want to cancel and click Cancel.
Click Cancel Profile to confirm your request.
